Love Is The Message, The Message Is Death is the formative seven-minute film by Arthur Jafa, released shortly after the 2016 US elections. Using sourced archival materials spanning over a century, from television broadcasts, music videos, police camera footage, home footage, sporting and cultural events to splice together a montage that is both “a black display of black excellence”, and a documentation of white supremacy, systemic racism, and police brutality collectively experienced by Black communities in America. This rare first edition includes texts from cultural critic Greg Tate, known for his elevation of Hip-Hop as a recognised genre within the critic realm, and Professor of English literature and Black studies, Christina Sharpe.
