Exceptionally rare. Nobuyoshi Araki's first published photographic book Oh Nippon (Oh, Japan) from 1971. By far his most interesting and conceptual work, it has the spirit of his early handmade Xerox photo albums with nude images presented in series and collage, shot in dark gravure. Due to problems with the Japanese censors, many of his proposed images were rejected; a compromise, at least in terms of Araki's original vision and imagery, was found with the development of Mikuo Nakamura (the book's designer) of a layout that split the rejected images into sections which could be reassembled by folding opposing pages together across multiple spreads. With the censors appeased Araki was able to publish something close to the book he had originally intended.
